Columbus Museum Of Art
Columbus Museum of Art (CMA) is home to American and European modern works of art from the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries, including works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Emil Nolde, and Pablo Picasso. Though currently closed to the public, the museum eagerly anticipates the day when routines return to normal. Apart from acclaimed collections like the Suzanne Schiller Collection of American Social Commentary Art, the museum boasts the world’s largest collections of work by famous artists like Elijah Pierce, George Bellows, and Aminah Brenda.
The museum also hosts exciting exhibitions, such as “Permanent Interaction” that explore the interaction between Czech scenographer and painter, Jaroslav Malina’s theater designs, paintings, and drawings. “HOME” is another interesting exhibition that brings together a variety of CMA artworks that explore the concept of home. At the museum’s in-house Schokko Cafe, patrons will be able to enjoy seasonal menu items prepared from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
Franklin Park Conservatory
While temporarily closed to the public, Franklin Park Conservatory is a beautiful botanical garden and conservatory that offers indoor and outdoor gardens, as well as interesting exhibitions. The conservatory also boasts the largest collection of Dale Chihuly’s glass artwork in a botanical garden, as well as light art by artist James Turrell. Visitors can view different ecosystems from all over the world, for instance, rainforests, the Himalaya mountains, and deserts, in the conservatory’s biomes.
The outdoor gardens also offer a great variety of plants to see, which include a large conifer collection and a daylily garden that showcases 850 varieties of blooming lilies from late spring through summer. Upcoming exhibitions include Blooms & Butterflies from March 14 to July 5, where visitors can view hundreds of butterfly species in the Pacific Water Garden. From March 14 to Nov. 8, the conservatory also hosts the Bonsai exhibition, where visitors can view specimens from the conservatory’s bonsai collection.
Ohio History Center
Ohio History Center is home to over 60,000 square feet of exhibit galleries that tell Ohio’s stories. For the time being, they are offering Learn At Home content until daily routines return to normal. The exhibits cover thousands of years of history and many diverse topics. At the Building the American Dream exhibit, visitors can meander through a fully furnished, all-steel Lustron house that was manufactured in a Columbus factory after World War Two, to learn more about life in the 1950s in the U.S.
To travel back in time more than 15,000 years ago, you can visit the Ancient Footsteps exhibit that explores Ohio’s Native American heritage and boasts important archeological artifacts like the Adena Pipe and the mica hand. Visitors can also learn about Ohio’s plants, geology, geography, animals, and climate at The Nature of Ohio Exhibit. For some outdoor fun, drop by the Ohio Village that’s a recreation of a nineteenth-century village.
